
I don’t remember when Pauli Murray first came onto my radar, but I think they’re the first historical Black figure that I’ve felt a significant kinship with since Sammy Davis, Jr. Pauli was multifaceted and complex in a way that I’m still trying to unpack. And overtime, they seemed to develop a comfort of self that I still struggle with. I wrote this for Gay Parent Magazine based on a podcast episode I did with History is Gay in 2021.
